Part way through my he.net IPv6 certification. As expected, part of the time is waiting for NS propagation.

Social network sizes vs. country population
Saw this image on royal.pingdom.com and decided to share it. It’s amazing to see the size of some of these social networking sites in a graphical representation.

What’s under your stove?
Since we have been packing up and cleaning the condo in order to move, there have been a lot of interesting discoveries made Several of those discoveries were when moving the stove out to clean behind it. The checklist is as follows, or at least as far as I can tell:
- duct tape
- asparagus
- cheerio
- philips head screw
- unpopped popcorn kernel
- popped popcorn
- penne
- mushroom
- stella artois beer cap
- piece of tin foil wrapper
There was a lot more, but not everything was as easy to identify. At least things are a lot cleaner than they were.

Rogers “mistakes”
I’ve complained about this several times in the past, as I’m sure others have. I really think some of Rogers billing “mistakes” are either intentional or just not given any attention.
I’ve had several instances in the past with Rogers Wireless rebates, and well, never receiving them. I gave up on two in the past because my time was worth more than the 6 months (that’s right, half a year) of constantly calling in and being promised a credit on my next bill. I understand rebates are a numbers game to begin with, if only a small percentage of people forget to send in a rebate the savings to the company could be huge depending on the particular offer. But to push it even further than that, and just flat out not apply rebates of the loyal customers that took the time to send them in is a bullshit business practice. Many people I had talked to had the same experience with rebates from Rogers Wireless. It seems they have since improved this practice by introducing instant rebates, without having to send anything in. My last two phone upgrades proved this process successful.
This brings me to my most current run-in with a Rogers “mistake”. About a month ago I received an e-mail from Rogers Cable offering The Movie Network and HBO Canada for a trial offer of $7.48 /month for 4 months where the regular price is $14.95. I had recently had TMN, but cancelled it shortly after series finale of The Sopranos, since the movie selection was quite embarrassing. The addition of HBO interested me, but not enough to go back paying for the whole movie package. This offer seemed like a good deal so I called in to give it a try. I was informed that I would be able to cancel at any time and especially before the introductory pricing was up, but they could not add the promotion over the phone. This was a Rogers e-care offer and had to be ordered online. So I proceeded to follow the link directly from the e-mail and add TMN/HBO to my account with the introductory offer of $7.48/month for the first 4 months.
A few weeks later, my new Rogers bill is posted online and to no surprise of my own there was a charge for The Movie Network at $14.95. I called in and spoke to a customer service rep who informed me that this was indeed an error and that I shouldn’t use their online services to add promotional items because “the online system usually doesn’t apply promotions correctly”. I informed the rep that I had originally called and was told this was only an online promotion that had to be done via rogers.com which she confirmed was the case, but reiterated that they usually have problems with promotions being applied to online orders. I would have discussed this more, but she called Rogers e-care herself and had the credit applied to my account which is all I really wanted. But now I am left with this feeling that these situations are far from accidental. As with a rebate, if only a small percentage of customers neglected to rectify or even notice this billing error. How much extra revenue would this bring in? Blame it on a technical error, so no finger can be pointed at an employee making a mistake? I don’t know what to think. Sadly, I like most of the services I have from Rogers and in some cases there is no substitute which is why I continue to be a Wireless, Cable, Internet customer of theirs. But I can’t help but feel a little sick every time I encounter one of these issues.
Enough said…

A Christmas Treat
One of my gifts from my awesome girlfriend ended up being a bottle of Cabo Wabo Tequila. I swore off tequila for a long time, until I was re-introduced to the good stuff and told I should be sipping it. I now enjoy sipping good tequila, instead of shooting the cheap stuff. Here is a shot of the newest edition to my liquor cabinet:
